Dural Durabase Matting, referred to in other EU countries as CI++, is a multi functioning decoupling matting system. It is designed to alleviate stress caused by lateral movement within substrates normally viewed as unstable. When used in conjunction with tiles, it serves to decouple the tiles and bridge any cracks.
You can use this where shrinkage occurs in your substrate, concrete floors, and timber based substrates for example. Other examples include chipboard, floorboards, MDF, metal surfaces, and asphalt. Rigid floor coverings on these surfaces can de-bond and crack due to lateral movement beneath. Dural Durabase Anti Crack Matting fixes this problem.
Durabase CI matting serves to decouple the tiled floors and bridge any cracks. Due to the structure of the matting, channels are created which act to equalise water vapour pressure. This allows water vapour pressure to be compensated for if there is any residual moisture present. The Durabase CI matting system also decouples the flooring from the foundations.
Durabase CI crack prevention and shearing force protection allows new tiles to be laid on old and damaged tiled floors, provided that these are still load-bearing. Any small cracks can also be bridged so that they do no affect the tiling – making it ideal for renovation work.
Dural Durabase CI mats have 3 layer construction and are made from yellow polythene with a grid of texturing nodules and a supporting polypropylene fleece layer on the back. The combination ensures that the matting is resistant to most chemicals including salts, acids, alkalis, solvents, and oils.
Note: Dural DURABASE CI+ is suitable for use with all underfloor heating systems.
Dural DURABASE CI+ Can Solve the Following Problems
When renovating older surfaces, cracks can be present in the subfloor. This makes it impossible to safely install a watertight new tiled surface.
Tensions can appear in subfloors beneath flooring. Material depending, these tensions can then be transferred to the tiling and cause cracks to appear. For example, deformations in cement screed can after years of expansion and contractions. Durabase matting helps to alleviate these stresses.
When laying tiles on top of anhydrite screed, residual moisture from the screed itself can collect under the tiles and cause damage to the adhesive layer.
Dural DURABASE CI+ with Underfloor Heating Systems
The increased stress within the installation caused by thermal movement can cause problems to the installer. Separation, or isolation, membranes are ideal for removing shear stress from tile installation. By absorbing this stress, the membrane allows the tiled surface to remain intact. The air spaces under the membrane provide two benefits:
They allow residual moisture to gradually escape; therefore, this prevents cracks from forming in the substrate.
They allow the heat to be spread evenly across the floor surface. This makes the heating action more general and more effective.
